Abstract: Cement hydration is an exothermic action. The releasing period of hydration heat in cement is very long, but most of heat is released within 3 days, particularly at the initial stage of setting and hardening period. In most cases, the early volume deformation in hardened cement paste and concrete is mainly caused by temperature rising, which is from the hydration heat of cement. Therefore, lowering the hydration heat of cement concrete is an effective way to prevent its early cracking. The effect of hydration heat in cement concrete on its performance is analyzed by the author. The theoretical formula of hydration heat is given by the author. The research progress of hydration heat in cement concrete at the world is introduced, and the measures to lower the heat of hydration in cement production are pointed here.
