Abstract The paper briefly introduced a type of roller presses whose roller surface installed with column nails. The operating cycle and lifetime had been improved by this type of roller press. The maintenance frequency of roller surface and entire cost were also reduced. However, with the more application of this type of roller press, some new problems had arisen. The paper focused on introducing and analyzing the failure modes of the roller surface, including the breakage and drop of nails and crack and drop of roller surface. The solutions were proposed for these issues by simulation results.
