Abstract In this paper, potassium phosphate, magnesium oxide, borax and fly ash were used as raw materials to prepare magnesium phosphate cement(MPC) by a certain percentage. The workability and strength were used as indicators to study the effects of water-to-binder ratio, magnesium oxide and phosphate molar ratio (M/P), borax and fly ash on the properties of MPCs. X-ray diffractometer and scanning electron microscope were used to investigate the hydration product of MPCs and the effect of fly ash on it. The results show that when water-to-binder ratio is 0.34, M/P=3/1, mixed with 10% borax and 40% fly ash, the strength of MPCs is the highest, reaching 54.2 MPa.
