Classification of Expansive Soil and Construction Scheme of Foundations in Expansive Soil Area

Abstract The identification and classification criteria of expansive soil in China, America, France and India are introduced. For Chinese, American, French and Indian code, free swelling ratio, multiple methods, swelling pressure and multi-index comprehensive method is adopted respectively. Meanwhile, the construction methods such as micro pile, short pile and stress offset method for foundation engineering in expansive soil area under different identification and classification criteria are presented.
